How SEO Helps Get Your Website To The Top
SEO is Your Best Bet for Free Traffic Generation
Driving traffic to your website is VERY important if you want to have a great web presence online.
Search engines provide businesses and individuals with that ever so needed traffic to get eyes on their websites, which helps build their following, build their brand, build their list, build their reputation generate sales.
Learning SEO and using the strategies is an excellent way to generate an unlimited amount of traffic at absolutely no cost whatsoever – zip, zilch, nada!
So, what Is Search Engine Optimization exactly?
SEO is the process of creating a Web site that fosters the design, coding, copy, and link-building elements search engines most like to see.
Through the process of SEO, you can develop a site (or alter an existing site, which I am doing) so that the search engines will move you up to the top of the search results. This way there will be more eyes on your website from the people who want what you have to offer or sell. If your website is at or towards the top, more people will find you and click on your link before they click on someone else’s website link.
And How Does SEO Work?
Here are the 3 fundamental parts of the SEO equation:
1. Coding
2. Copywriting
3. Link popularity
Coding is the manipulation of your HTML code so that it is clean, uncluttered, positioned correctly, and easily accessible to the search engine spiders and bots.
You want to be sure the most important information to the spiders is located up top where they can quickly and easily find it. You also want to ensure that java scripts and other such coding are moved out of the spiders’ way.
Copywriting relates to the text on your site. Search engine copywriting is where you write in such a way that you include your primary key phrases in strategic places, so that you get the most “points” from the engines.
Link popularity has to do with sites have links that point back to your site (and vice versa). The theory is, that if others think highly enough of your site to link to it, your site must be of good quality.
When you have a good combination of all three primary elements, you stand a much better chance of ranking high with the engines.
How about META Tags? I remember when I first came online back in 1997 and did not know anything about META or SEO strategies, but for some reason the first website I ever put online got some really good rankings using something called META (in my head, I was like whatever) I used for a website I put up on a free web hosting provider at the time, named Angelfire. I did get a lot visits to it. But that was, well 1997.
Search engines are now a whole lot smarter as regards to tags and the only thing that carries a whole heck of a lot of weight now are title tags.
SEO Copywriting isn’t putting in key phrases over and over again because that can put you at risk. At risk of spamming the search engines and your human visitors won’t like it either. Remember, you are on a mission to convert visitors into followers, readers and paying customers, period.
Learning, understanding and implementing Search Engine Optimization is worth the time and effort and will make you one happy camper.
Education is key! Here are some resources that have been recommended to me to help get my site ranked high on websites like Yahoo! and Google. It’s a work in progress, but I am learning a lot.
